When you encounter an issue or have a question about OpenSubtitles, you may wonder whether it’s better to open a support ticket or post in the forum. Here’s a guide to help you decide the best approach based on your specific situation.

Opening a Ticket: When to Use Private Support

If your problem is specific to your account and involves personal or sensitive information, it’s better to open a support ticket. This ensures your details remain confidential and you receive direct assistance from the support team.

Some common issues that warrant opening a ticket include:

• VIP membership problems (e.g., VIP not activated after purchase).
• Download limits (if you believe your limit isn’t correct or there’s been a mistake).
• Account-related questions (such as login issues or problems with account settings).

Opening a ticket ensures that your inquiry is handled privately and securely by the support team, who can help resolve issues directly linked to your account. This is the best option when sharing personal information like emails, payment details, or subscription data.

Posting in the Forum: When to Start a Discussion

If your question or issue might be useful or relevant to the broader OpenSubtitles community, it’s often better to post in the forum. Posting in the forum allows others to contribute to the discussion and benefit from the shared knowledge. You may also find that other users have encountered the same issue and can offer helpful solutions or advice.

Here are examples of when it’s better to post in the forum:

• General questions about the OpenSubtitles.com site or the API.
• Feature requests or suggestions for site improvements.
• Issues others might also face (e.g., API limits, subtitle upload problems, or subtitle synchronization issues).
• Tips, troubleshooting, or advice that could benefit the wider community.

The Two Forums: Old vs. New

As we continue to migrate from OpenSubtitles.org to OpenSubtitles.com, we’re also moving from the old forum at forum.opensubtitles.org to a newer and more modern platform at forum.opensubtitles.com.

• The old forum still contains a wealth of information, particularly about OpenSubtitles.org and its legacy features. However, it requires a separate registration, and most discussions there are now outdated as we transition to OpenSubtitles.com.
• The new forum is linked to your OpenSubtitles.com account, making it more convenient to use. For any questions or discussions related to the OpenSubtitles.com site or its API, we recommend using the new forum at forum.opensubtitles.com. It’s modern, streamlined, and fully integrated with your existing OpenSubtitles.com account, so there’s no need for a separate login.

When in Doubt, Ask!

If you’re unsure whether to post in the forum or open a ticket, just remember:

• Private or account-specific issues = open a ticket.
• General questions or discussions = start a forum post.

By choosing the right option, you’ll help us respond more effectively to your concerns while also contributing to the OpenSubtitles community.
